For direct deposit changes, the SSA is speeding up the process. What used to take 30 days to process will now be completed in just one business day for both online and in person requests.

Staring March 31, 2025, the SSA will fully enforce its new identity verification procedures. If you are applying for SSD benefits and cannot use the online system, you will need to start your claim by phone.
