Are You Eligible for SSDI in Florida?
The Social Security Disability Determination Process
Do you qualify for Social Security benefits? How does the Social Security Administration (SSA) determine whether to accept a claim?
The graphic below shows the Social Security disability evaluation process. You must meet several criteria to be eligible for benefits, including:
- Not gainfully employed at the time of filing
- Having a severe impairment as defined by the Social Security Administration
- Having an impairment that will last (or has lasted) 12 months or more, or which will result in death
- Unable to work at your former job
- Unable to perform other generally available work
Was Your Claim Denied Even Though You Met These Requirements?
The disability evaluation process is complex. The SSA is very particular in how they evaluate initial claims and determine SSDI eligibility. Many claims for benefits are denied at initial determination, even for those who are severely disabled. It is possible that you missed stating your injury thoroughly, or made a statement that seemed innocent, but resulted in hurting your claim. Even one minor error can result in your claim being denied.
