Reconsideration: A Second Chance

Most people are turned down for Social Security disability the first time around. If your initial application for benefits was denied, we can appeal to the Social Security Administration (SSA) for formal reconsideration. A different SSA staffer will re-evaluate the original claim and any new evidence.

Additionally, the SSA will usually refer you to a doctor for a consultative exam (CE). Regardless of the nature of your claim, this includes both a physical examination and a mental health examination.

Attorney Chris R. Borgia has helped hundreds of people across Florida get approved by resubmitting their claims for Social Security disability (SSDI) or supplemental security income (SSI) reconsideration. Our experienced staff includes former Social Security Administration employees with insights into why claims are approved or denied, and we have extensive knowledge of the medical issues involved.

How Long Does The Process Take?

Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration is a slow-moving bureaucracy. The process typically takes nine to twelve months. During this time, it is important to continue medical treatment and have your doctor document any changes in your disability.

If you desperately need benefits to pay your bills, you may qualify for dire need processing of your claim, which speeds up the process.

What If I Am Denied on Reconsideration?

Even with legal counsel, many reconsidered claims are stamped "Denied." However, this is not the end of the process. The Social Security Disability Law Firm, P.A., will represent you in an Administrative Law Judge hearing, where you can plead your case.
